Ballymaloe Country Rellish
Here is the Ballymaloe Way: fashion an idea, then fashion a delicious product from that idea, then let it’s reputation build slowly and organically over time and, in so doing, establish a trans-generational family business.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Of course, if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it. But the Allen and Hyde families of Ballymaloe know how to do it and, working in this patient and unorthodox way, that is how Yasmin Hyde fashioned the original Ballymaloe relish back in 1990, and it is how Yasmin's daughter, Maxine, has come to be the boss of a busy, expanding business, which today makes the original relish, along with an array of sauces, dressings and other relishes.
Of course, the real Ballymaloe way is to make something that is so good and so gorgeous that it is irresistible. Which means a hot dog without their jalapeno relish feels undressed, and a sausage roll without Ballymaloe reliosh feels just plain naked. The cranberry sauce makes a chicken sandwich special, and every young person knows that a bag of Ballymaloe bolognese sauce will make that Wednesday night pasta feel like a treat. Certain great foods are your constant companions in the kitchen, and Maxine and Yasmin’s Ballymaloe sauces and relishes are the best of kitchen company.
