Good Things at Dillon's Corner

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

When she moved her restaurant into the centre of Skibbereen and opened on Dillon’s Corner, Carmel Somers created one of the most beautiful dining spaces in the entire country. The new Good Things Café is gorgeous, a luxe room in a classic old town building. But Ms Somers doesn’t just know where to place the furniture: she also knows how to put the food on the plate so it seems as much a work of art as a work of culinary creativity. She has scaled back the size of her menus, which allows the kitchen to focus on the Good Things classics: the lush crab tart; the ingenious hake steamed with sushi rice and served with a sesame, ginger and cucumber dressing, and the West Cork fish soup. A wonderful selection of wines will make you want to settle in for the evening.
