La Cucina Centro

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

La Cucina Centro, the new Limerick city centre restaurant from Bruno and Lorraine Coppola, is the most significant restaurant to open in the city’s culinary history.

For starters, the room is glam-as-all-get-out gorgeous, a collaboration by designer Tullio Orlandi and sign writer Tom Collins. The staff epitomise the alert service the Coppolas have always created, and are confident with both food and drinks. The cooking, from Bruno Coppola and head chef Alessandro Croccolino, drives the feel-good factor down deep into your boots, with superb, thin-based pizzas, elegant, unctuous pasta dishes, and an array of daily specials: bistecca with porcini sauce; octopus amatriciana; frutti di mare. Just one problem: getting a weekend table is the biggest ask in the city. Keep trying: it’s worth it.
