“Café & Deli est. 1979” is what it says above the door of Darren Kearney's fine coffee shop, bakery and deli on Market street. So, 2014 will bring 35 years of service to the town of Downpatrick, a truly significant landmark for any family business, but especially one for a business that has been cooking for and catering for the people of the town. Mr Kearney and his family have succeeded by doing the good thing: everything here is baked and cooked with skill and dedication, whether it's a triple tier of sandwiches and cakes and creamy scones for afternoon tea, or a hunger-banishing fry-up at breakfast time to get your engine running, or a lovely bowl of vegetable broth or a big plate of Irish stew or bangers and mash for lunch.
Mr Kearney isn't afraid of hard work, and it shows in the application and the attention to detail of everything they make and everything they sell in Oakley Fayre. 35 years of doing the good thing is an incredible achievement, so we'll see you on Market Street for a blueberry and vanilla scone and a cup of coffee.
