The Tap Room
Rathmullan House has two fine restaurants, in the shape of The Cook & Gardener restaurant, and The Tap Room, but the latter gets our vote for the simple reason that it is an unprecedented alliance, between country house hotel, pizza chef, and craft brewer. Mark Wheeler opened up the original kitchens of the Rathmullan, Kemal Scarpello of Slow Food Co winched in the pizza oven, and Rick le Vert of Kinnegar Brewery (from just up the road) brings his superb range of craft beers. Today, 200 people a day come to The Tap Room to feast on superbly fashioned pizzas like The Spaniard – slow roast tomatoes, sweet peppers, chorizo, caramelised onions – with a Limeburner Pale Ale, or maybe a glass of Rustbucket and a Bianco. An inspired alliance of mighty talents, so don’t miss it.
